Importance of Computer

The very significance of the 21st century lies in the advancement in the dynamic field of information technology. This era is completely dominated by different types of computers from desktop computers at homes to the main frames in firms, and from bar code readers in super markets to PDAs used by the sophisticated class; everywhere you look you see some sort of computer. About ten years ago it was a rare thing to find someone with a computer and people would give awed looks to those who had one. As time went on computers became just as common as television sets in our homes. The importance of computers was highlighted with the introduction of internet which allows access to any piece of information in the world. Now it seems if you don’t have an Internet connection, what is the point of having a computer. Computers and technology are totally giving the workplace, education, and for that matter the world a complete overhaul. As I see the metamorphosis happen before my eyes I believe that it is imperative that young children and adults of all ages become familiar with and start using this new super tool called the computer. The importance of computer literacy could not be stressed enough among children. The computer is just going to become a bigger and bigger tool in our new cyber-space era. The computer should be introduced to youngsters in the low elementary grades and slowly worked into the curriculum to become a major part of the student’s everyday agenda. I believe that in the future homework assignments and reports will have to be sent into the teacher via e-mail, as the matter of fact; laptops are being used by students to do their assignments and submitting it to their teachers via email. Computer literacy is a must for the next generation. If computer literacy is to be made common among youth it is necessary that their parents should have computer knowledge as well.

If we take a glance at our lives, we can clearly see that computer is playing an important task in almost every aspects of our life. People do have some sort of interactions with computers. The influence of computer is universal. Computers are used in applications ranging from running a firm, diagnosing a disease, and designing to constructing and launching a space vehicle. Because the development of computers has been largely the work of scientists, it is natural that a large body of computer applications serves the scientist. To solve scientific problems researchers must deal with the language of science: mathematics. To understand more deeply complex natural phenomena, scientists must use complex mathematical relationships and volumes of data too impossible to manage without the aid of computers. Many scientific computer programs serve the entire population. If we take an example of computer being used in daily life, we can have an example of word processing that is used almost everywhere. Word processing is a type of application which eases the users by correcting the spelling and grammar mistakes automatically. If the content of a document repeats you don’t have to type it each time. You can use the copy and paste features. You can printout documents and make several copies. It is easier to read a word-processed document than a handwritten one. Similarly, internet is one of the examples of common used of our daily life, which is a network of almost all the computers in the world. We can have very fast and convenient access to information i.e. we can browse through much more information than we could do in a library, which also enables the person to save his time as well as energy consumed to find the relevant information by going through many books. Moreover, audio/ video composition and editing have been made much easier by computers. It no longer costs thousands of dollars of equipment to compose music or make a film. Graphics engineers can use computers to generate short or full-length films or even to create three-dimensional models. Anybody owning a computer can now enter the field of media production. Special effects in science fiction and action movies are created using computers.

Computers have leapfrogged the human society into another league. It is used in each and every aspect of human life. It is difficult to imagine a world bereft of computers. This revolutionary technology is indeed a boon to the human race.
